Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
KinWatt is an app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that helps solar professionals size systems and prepare quotes. This policy explains what information the app uses, where it is stored, and when it leaves your device. In short: your quotes and customers stay on your devices and in your own iCloud account, and the developer has no access to them.
Information you enter
When preparing a quote, you can enter customer details (name, phone, email, and address), project details (energy use, city or region, and system configuration), follow-up notes, your equipment catalog and prices, and your business details and logo. You decide what to enter, and the app does not ask you to create an account.
Where it is stored
KinWatt stores your information in the app's storage on your device. The developer has no servers of its own for the app, does not keep copies of your quotes, and cannot view or delete them remotely. Protect access to your device with a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID.
iCloud sync
Your quotes and customer records sync across your devices signed in with the same Apple Account through your private iCloud database (CloudKit). That database belongs to your account, and the developer cannot read it. Your price catalog, logo, and settings are not synced; they stay on each device. Apple provides iCloud under its own terms and privacy policy. If you are not signed in to iCloud, everything stays on the device only.
Manual copies
If you want, you can export a copy of your quotes and customers from Settings as a JSON file and save it wherever you choose (for example, in Files or iCloud Drive), or import a copy you saved earlier. The app only creates or opens that file when you ask it to.
Exchange rates
To convert prices, the app looks up exchange rates online. For Mexican pesos it uses the rate published in Mexico's Official Gazette of the Federation (Diario Oficial de la Federación, or DOF), and for other currencies the public Frankfurter service. These requests only include the dates or currency needed; no information from your quotes or customers is sent.
Project location and solar data
To estimate peak sun hours for a project, the app sends the city or region you type to Apple's geocoding service (MapKit), which turns it into coordinates. It then sends only those coordinates (latitude and longitude) to NASA POWER, a public NASA service, to get the average solar radiation for that area. Customer names and other customer details are not sent. The app does not use your device's GPS location.
On-device processing
When you choose a CFE electricity bill (PDF or image), the app reads its text with Apple's text recognition (Vision) right on your device, without sending the bill online. If your device supports Apple Intelligence, you can ask it to draft the cover letter and system description; this uses Apple's model that runs on the device itself.
Photos and files
To add your logo, you use the system photo picker: the app only receives the image you choose and has no access to your photo library. Likewise, it only opens files you select, such as CFE bills, backup copies, or, on Mac, price lists. These files are processed on your device.
Sharing proposals
The PDFs you create may include customer and business details. They are only shared when you choose to, using the system share sheet or by opening WhatsApp with a prewritten message that you send yourself. The call and email options open the Phone or Mail apps. From that point on, the information is subject to the terms of the app or person you share it with.
Siri, Shortcuts, and widgets
You can create quotes or export proposals with Siri and the Shortcuts app; Apple processes voice requests under its privacy policy. Widgets show a summary (for example, quote numbers, customer names, and amounts) that the app saves in a shared space on your own device; names and amounts are marked as sensitive so the system can hide them on the Lock Screen.
Subscription and payments
KinWatt is offered as a single subscription, monthly or yearly, with a 14-day free trial. Apple processes all payments through your App Store account; the developer never receives your card number or payment details. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings.
No analytics, ads, or tracking
KinWatt does not include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking tools, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. As with any internet connection, the services listed above (Apple, DOF, Frankfurter, and NASA) can see the IP address a request comes from.
Website
The kinwatt.com website has no forms, cookies, or analytics. The sample PDF downloads through a direct link without asking for any information. Like any web server, the hosting provider (Firebase Hosting, by Google) may log technical details of a visit, such as the IP address.
Your rights and deleting your data
Because your data lives on your devices and in your iCloud account, you are in control: you can view, correct, or delete it in the app at any time, and deletions sync to your other devices. To delete everything, remove the app from your devices and delete KinWatt's data in iCloud from Settings > [your name] > iCloud on iPhone and iPad, or from System Settings > Apple Account > iCloud on Mac. Manual copies and PDFs you have saved or shared must be deleted separately. If you email us, we only use your message to reply, and you can ask us to delete it.
Children
KinWatt is a professional tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
Data controller
Data controller: Ricardo E. Castillo Mancera, developer of KinWatt.
